Pupil Parliament

At Consortium Trust we are really proud to offer the children the opportunity to use their voices to make an impact in their schools. Pupil Parliament children are elected in their schools, through a democratic voting process, to represent their school community at wider Trust events.  

Pupil Parliament meet termly to have their say in policies and actions across the whole Trust. They meet with their peers to discuss current issues, engage in debates and create plans for further action in their schools.  

Throughout 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, the emphasis has been on understanding bullying and developing their learning characteristics, and more recently the impact of Climate change in their communities and working on the Trust action plan to achieve Net Zero.  

Debates have included: 

“Everybody should be encouraged to be vegetarian/ vegan in order to save the planet. Discuss.”  

“Should people be allowed to travel if transport is a major threat to climate change and a contributor to CO2 emissions? Discuss.”â?¯ 

“Only big actions can make big differences” 

“If someone is being bullied online, should they just shut down the account?” 

“Cyberbullying isn’t as harmful as face to face bullying.”â?¯ 

“Playing games online is harmless fun and there shouldn’t be a limit to how long you can spend gaming.”â?¯ 

Their Climate change action plans have included: 

  • Encouraging a “Lights Out” campaign to reduce electricity costs in school 

  • Exploring how photocopying and printing costs can be reduced- thus saving paper and saving money 

  • Recycling campaigns 

  • Greening the curriculum- looking at how they can encourage greater biodiversity in their school communities 

  • Reducing food waste 

  • Growing their own produce to eat in school or sell to families

They have also spent time looking at the different charities that they help to support in school, as well as thinking of things that they can do to raise money for their own school communities. 

We are really proud of the work and results that they achieve. They all work collaboratively to make positive changes which impact their lives and futures - both in school and beyond.
